Frequently Asked Questions

Colour analysis is a fun, relaxed process where we discover which colours naturally flatter your skin tone, eyes, and hair. This is done through trying out and comparing different colour drapes against the face and watching the effect. It’s all about finding the shades that make you look brighter, fresher, and more “you.”

It’s a more detailed version of the classic four seasons (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter). Instead of just four categories, we look at 16, which gives you a much more accurate and personalised colour palette. It also caters for neutral leaning undertones.

Not at all. You don’t need to prepare or understand anything beforehand. Just come as you are — I’ll guide you through everything.

My studio is based on the second floor of my home so I do not have an accessible bathroom. I can move my equipment downstairs. My front door is level access with 2 small steps outside and I have a downstairs toilet. It is possible to get a wheelchair into my house if you have portable ramps. So if you have any accessibility requirements please contact me to discuss them to see what we can do to make an appointment possible.

I will ask you to wear a cape around your shoulders so that we have a neutral base to work from. I may also ask you to wear a head cover if you have coloured hair, as this can distract during the analysis and lead to an inaccurate result. We use coloured drapes to see how different shades affect your complexion. Some colours will make you look bright and awake, while others might wash you out or make imperfections more noticeable. It’s fascinating to watch the difference. By the end, we’ll know your undertone, depth, and chroma — and your sub‑season. I will apply some lovely skin care at the start of the appointment to prep for make up application towards the end of the appointment. I will apply make up based on your analysis so that you can elevate the effect further. This can be tailored to your make up preferences. We will also discuss jewellery and hair colours that complement your season. I will give you a purse/wallet swatch card to keep with your palette of colours to help you when shopping. You will receive a follow up email with all the information we have discussed as well as discount codes and shoppable links to get you started.

Appointments take place at my home and I have a dog. If you have an allergy to pet hair/dander please do not book with me as I cannot ensure an allergen free environment. There is a section on the booking form to tell me if you have any concerns. I offer a selection of drinks at the appointment, so if you have a milk preference for example please write that on your booking form so I can cater to your needs. The appointment does include makeup and skincare application so it is essential that you tell me about any sensitivities or allergies before we proceed. If I know ahead of time I can try to find an alternative or we can skip any steps that may be an issue. I use Tropic make up and skin care which doesn’t contain any harsh chemicals and I can send ingredients lists before hand for you to check.

Ideally, yes. Makeup can mask the effects I am assessing during the analysis (e.g increase or decrease in redness or blueness around the eyes, sallowness), so coming bare‑faced gives the most accurate results. If you forget or don’t feel comfortable arriving without makeup I have makeup wipes on hand. We will apply makeup after I have determined your season to explore what colours work best for you and ensure you leave feeling pampered and gorgeous!

Yes, similarly to make up, fake tan will effect the accuracy of your colour analysis result. A key part of the analysis is assessing your undertone, if you have fake tan on your face I won’t be able to see your true undertone. If you would like to book with me please do so at a time when your fake tan has faded. If you only wear fake tan on your body I can work around this using a neutral cape that goes up to the neck covering the tanned area.
-
Yes and no. Your undertone will remain the same so I can place you in your home season but your sub-season might vary when you have no tan versus when you have a strong tan. I would advise booking your appointment at a time when your skin is at the point it is most of the year. E.g if you go abroad for 2 weeks in the summer book your appointment before then. If you spend 8 months of the year abroad and therefore are tanned most of the year, then book soon after you return. Please contact me if you would like to discuss the best time to book.

Absolutely not! Colour analysis gives you a framework for choosing clothes from your wardrobe and when making new clothing purchases. You may just want to wear your palette on special occasions to enhance your appearance for photos or you may become obsessed like me and want to gradually convert your wardrobe to be solely in your palette! You may fall somewhere in between these two ends of the scale. The point is you are in control and can use the information you learn during your appointment in whatever way works best for you and your budget. If you do want some help with your wardrobe I offer a Wardrobe Colour Edit as part of my services.

Not at all. Its for anyone who wants to enhance their appearance quickly and painlessly or is struggling with their confidence perhaps due to big life changes such as becoming a mum, ageing or perimenopause. Many clients come because they don’t feel confident with colour or clothes. Colour analysis is for anyone who wants getting dressed to feel easier and more enjoyable and wants to feel more comfortable with the colours they choose to wear. All the colours in your palette work harmoniously together so it makes choosing outfits so much easier!
-
Your undertone stays the same, but your depth and contrast can shift slightly with age, hair colour changes, or lifestyle changes. Most people stay within their home season, but their sub-season might change.
-
Yes — colour analysis works for every skin tone, every ethnicity, every age, and every gender. Everyone has colours that naturally enhance their features.
-
Each seasonal palette has a broad range of colours within it, from neutrals to chromatic colours so there is something for everyone. As a lover of colour, I hope you feel confident to embrace the more colourful aspects of your palette once you see how great they look on you, but if not, you will still come out of your appointment confident in what neutrals will enhance your features best.
